The Zombie is a strong cocktail made of fruit juices and various rums. So named for its perceived effects on the drinker. The Zombie is the mother of all freak drinks. It first appeared in late 1934, invented by Donn Beach of Hollywood's restaurant. It was popularized soon afterwards at the 1939 New York World's Fair.


  • 1/2 Oz apricot brandy
  • 1 Oz light rum
  • 1 Oz dark rum
  • 1 Oz lime juice
  • 2 dashes grenadine
  • 1 Oz orange juice
  • 1 Oz Bacardi 151 rum

Elaboration Process

  1. Mix light and dark rum and brandy in a cocktail shaker, add lime juice and grenadine.
  2. Shake well and strain into a highball glass filled with cracked ice.
  3. Fill glass with orange juice but leave enough room to float the Bacardi rum 151 on the top.
  4. Garnish with a cherry and orange slice.
